The figures below, based on the market research group Gartner, show the worldwide market for computer-aided design and drafting software in 2017.

Q2 2017

Total installed base of CAD software was 4,934,535 units. CAD gross revenues were up 23.4% to $2.6 billion.

CAD gross revenues per user were $2,959 (up 6.2% from 2016).

The U.S. dominated market, followed by Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the rest of the world.

These APIs are primarily used by third-party developers to make AutoCAD more useful to users, or to create add-on software.

Autodesk added AutoCAD in 2002 as a Linux client that could be used on a personal computer or workstation. It was initially available only for Linux. Since 2006, the software has been offered for Windows, macOS, iOS and Android.

In addition to the primary use of AutoCAD, a number of other groups have used AutoCAD as a back-end database for creating drawings, creating blueprints and providing schematic designs. AutoCAD is also used to create parametric design (often referred to as the design of parts or assemblies). In the company of Teapot Technology, AutoCAD was used for the automatic creation of plexiglass glass bottle labels. In the company of Benchware, AutoCAD was used for the production of real-life scale models.

More recently, AutoCAD has been used to create 3D printable parts designs. This feature was added in AutoCAD 2010 and is known as the DWG (design and wireframe) files format. It allows for the creation of 3D printed models, allowing for the creation of any geometric object that can be exported as a file for 3D printing.

AutoCAD is used for the design of social housing by I-Aspire Architecture, an architecture practice based in Hong Kong.

AutoCAD files have been used in the planning of skyscrapers such as the Aon Center in Miami, USA, the Wind Tower in Torino, Italy, and the Wangjing SOHO in Beijing, China.

In the case of the Aon Center, for the design of the architectural program of a skyscraper, it was necessary to combine the use of CAD with the company Sensus Building Solutions.

AutoCAD is used as the basis of architectural models by architectural firms such as the practice of OMA, Architecture and Urbanism. AutoCAD is also used to create architectural renderings and animations. In 2012, the firm Architecture and Urbanism used the software to create the visualizations and animations of the new Addison Court and the Tower Hall at the 2013 British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards.

The Architectural Association School of Architecture used AutoCAD to produce models for The Education of Architecture, a study guide on architecture, published in 1883.

To create a project file, from the interface, click on Edit Template, and then click on New. From here you can choose between several templates for.dwg (auto-cad) files.

Enter your project name, project description, and data. Save the file.

If you have the option, save the file to the new project folder.

Click on New Project and create your project.

From the project properties, you can export the project to a PDF file, to a DWG file, and to a linkable DWG format. The DWG format is the final step.

Click on the File menu and open a PDF file.

Click on Print and then save it to a file.

You can export the file from this step to a DWG file from the File menu or from the File>Export tool.

Click on the menu and choose Convert to DWG File (under Save).

Save the file and you are finished.

You can add all the objects you have made into the project file, or you can export individual items from the model.

14. Locking

You may find that you want to stop people from modifying your model. If that is the case, you need to use locking. The best way to lock your model is with a unique item or text string.

Locking is a simple, yet often misunderstood, concept. It is where you add a unique word or letter to an item that represents a layer in the project.

When locking is used, the item that is locked will not be able to be moved, deleted, or edited. This makes sure that only the creator of the object is allowed to change it.

To add a unique item to the project, first create the item. In this case, create a text string.

Click on the menu and choose Insert>Text.

In the text window, type the unique word or letter. It should be a one-off.

15. Making a Copy

You may need to make a copy of your model. It is simple to make a copy of your model in 2D or 3D. You can easily save a copy to your computer, or send a link to your model to someone else.

You can copy an existing model with the Move tool or by using the Copy option in the Options menu.

For 3D models, you can use the Copy tool

What's New In AutoCAD?

Create changes, and automate the workflow from order to print, adding changes to a drawing without re-drawing. Send your changes to the manufacturing floor, or to the 3D printer for immediate printing. (video: 7:19 min.)

Send your changes, not your entire drawing to your manufacturing team and quickly make adjustments. You can send new model parts with Markup Assist, or new parameters to control the manufacturing process.

Rapidly send feedback and add changes to your drawings automatically.

Enhanced geometry tools to capture and work with complex geometry more efficiently.

Improvements to cloud connectivity and integration with other Microsoft products.

More accurate drawing controls

Get more accuracy, less work, when you need it. Faster model creation with new improvements to the geometric tools that help you construct drawing models.

Manage complex shape models with greater precision.

Closed splines now let you use complex spline shapes without worrying about getting closed loops on the model.

Generate custom spline shapes with greater precision.

A single click makes it easy to generate closed splines.

Curves without line junctions with new Curve tool.

Find, slice, and modify complex curves using the new Curve tool.

Create a new shape and keep it open for easy editing.

One of the fastest and easiest ways to annotate a model is with a new set of annotation tools that work on curves and splines.

Layers, zones, and areas.

Use multiple layers to organize your drawing, and create zones, areas, and guides to help manage your work.

Perform precise editing on zones, areas, and guides.

Replace boundaries for zones, areas, or guides with a new boundary tool.

Add or remove a boundary to any of your zones, areas, and guides.

Add, delete, move, and split zones, and use a new tool to create a zone from any existing spline or line.

Split lines and save part of them as a new zone for later use.
